The 2012 CS4HS at UCA is a primarily sponsored FREE summer workshop that will prepare both current and future teachers to bring computer science to Arkansas high schools. The theme of this year’s workshop will be Computing is Cool and Fun! We will emphasize the core aspects of computer science using a entertaining and dynamic set of hands on exercises. These exercises will be packaged in such a way that they can then be taken to classrooms for students to enjoy.
The workshop is scheduled for July 9-11, 2012. It is open to all high school teachers and college students majoring in STEM education in Arkansas who are enthusiastic about incorporating CS into their curricula.
This workshop will prepare participants to bring computer science to their schools. The training will focus on developing fun student projects emphasizing core computer science concepts and practices.
The objectives of this years workshop are to:
- Expose you to basic computational problem solving techniques. You can then take this knowledge back with you and help your students use computers to solve real world problems.
- Broaden you and your student's interests in the computing. Using fun hands on projects you can both demonstrate and spark your students' interest in Computer Science.
- Establish an on going collaboration between teachers and our department.
